The Samsung PN58A550 1080p Plasma HDTV comes with a 58 inch wide screen, and a 16:9 ratio High Definition capability. There are added components for receiving analog or digital signals, a built in cable tuner to pick up unscrambled channels with out a cable box, and a clear 1920 * 1080 pixel resolution. The price ranges from $2,799.00 to $3,600.00, but can be more if you decide to buy any of the many accessories available to go with this television.

For the most part, people seem to be quite happy with this Samsung television. It boasts a clear and sharp picture, with good sound for both watching television shows and movies, to using it to play video games. It is, overall, a pretty good value.

The set up option is found to be quite user friendly, and is more extensive than many other televisions. It is set so that you can dial in everything you need regarding the picture just by using regular menus. The menu for this television is very easy to use, as well as quite interactive.

The finish of the television is quite nice. The frame and stand sports a glossy finish that gives it a very crisp and sharp look. This makes it an elegant addition to your living room, family room or den. You can also put it in your bedroom if you like to watch television in bed. Any room it becomes a part of, though, is given a nicer look.

As nothing is ever perfect, this Samsung television does have a few drawbacks to it. One is the location of the S-Video and Composite connections. They are located on the left side of the television rather than the back of it. There are also some issues with the zoom feature. If you like to zoom in with the letter boxed movies, so as to get rid of the top and bottom bars, you will find that the picture just stretches vertically. This makes everything look abnormally tall.

Some of you will have an issue with glaring on the screen, especially if you locate the television in a room with a lot of sunlight. The screen seems to be rather reflective and will pick up the sun’s light, causing a definite glare. However, this may not be an issue for you if you have a sun protected place to put the television.

Another issue that seems to crop up is related to the sound quality. It seems that it is adequate but not necessarily great. If you are using surround system, the television may actually cause a rattling noise if you turn it up too loud. It does not seem to be a huge issue, though.

One last thing is something not mentioned in the manual. You should never use the power button on the face of the television. That is what the remote is for, so always use that. There is a pressure pad system on the set that is sensitive to moisture. If your hands happen to be damp when you touch it to turn on the television, it can cause the pad to burn out and you will have an almost $400.00 repair bill.
